The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects linked to the kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Toure in Kumasi last October.

The suspects, 32-year-old Nigerien national Salifu Walid and 24-year-old Burkinabe national Aziz Wadrago Mane, were arrested on September 20, 2026, at a hideout in Banpanase, near Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region. Police said the arrests followed a sustained, intelligence-led operation to identify those linked to the goalkeeper's death.

According to the Police, the case dates back to October 16, 2025, when individuals claiming to be Toure's brothers brought him to Manhyia Hospital in Kumasi with multiple abdominal injuries, telling staff he had been in an accident. He was pronounced dead on arrival. The individuals then deposited his body at Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo in Kumasi and fled the scene.

Preliminary investigations have established that the two suspects belong to a four-member group believed to have masterminded the kidnapping and murder. The group allegedly posed as football scout agents, using online platforms to lure unsuspecting victims into Ghana.

Police said the suspects admitted their involvement during interrogation and gave details of their roles in luring Toure to Ghana as part of an alleged scheme to defraud him.

Two other suspects wanted in connection with the case, Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and a man identified only as Barry, remain at large. Police described them as believed to have played central roles in the group's activities and said efforts to arrest them are being intensified.

Salifu Walid and Aziz Wadrago Mane remain in police custody and will be processed for court. The Ghana Police Service said investigations are continuing as it works to apprehend the remaining suspects.
