The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect, identified as Bismark Kpormeno, for allegedly possessing a large quantity of compressed plant materials suspected to be narcotic drugs.
In a statement, police said the suspect was arrested by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit during an operation along the Tema-Ada Road.
The suspect, who was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck, failed to stop when signaled by officers and attempted to evade arrest.
He was, however, pursued and apprehended at Bondase.
According to the police, a search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of twelve (12) sacks and eighty (80) parcels of compressed plant materials concealed in the container and wrapped with sellotape.
Police investigations revealed that the suspected substances were allegedly loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and were being transported to Ada.
The police noted that the suspect is currently in custody assisting with investigations, while the vehicle and exhibits have been impounded for evidential purposes.
