I was contracted to insult President Akufo-Addo- Owura Kay

Guitarist and songwriter Owura Kay has revealed that he was once contracted by a pastor to slander former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

‎‎During an interview on Hitz FM on Thursday, April 30, 2026, he disclosed that he rejected the offer, citing family ties to the former President.

‎“You know, a pastor came and gave me a contract to go and insult a President of Ghana somewhere, and I said this is something I can’t do. Even when you check, my mother is an adopted child from the President’s side. The President I’m talking about is Nana Akufo-Addo,” he said.

‎‎Owura Kay expressed surprise upon learning that someone he held in high regard could make such a request.

‎‎“I respected him so much, so I was surprised that such a man could give me that contract. He even gave me a place at Amasaman to execute it,” he added.

‎‎He further disclosed that the pastor whose name he did not reveal, wanted him to carry out the act on the same day the former President was scheduled to visit the pastor’s church.

‎‎“He gave me the contract on the day he had invited the President to his church. Moreover, the President is your friend, so because of this, I’m not going to do it,” he stated.

‎‎According to Owura Kay, his refusal to accept the offer led to several challenges and alleged victimisation. ‎‎“Because I said I’m not going to do it, to be honest, my image has been tarnished. I have been abused,” he said.

‎‎“They stopped me from travelling. Sometimes, the musicians I travel with are called and told not to allow me to join them. Even in the houses I’ve rented, they go to the landlords to get me evicted,” he alleged.

‎‎He described the pastor involved as a highly respected figure in the country, stating he begged the pastor to pardon him.

‎‎“At a point, I told him to just leave me alone. The kind of treatment and abuse they subjected me to even someone who had stolen money from their church wouldn’t be treated that way,” he said.

‎‎Owura Kay added that the situation has persisted for years and called for justice. ‎“I think I need justice for that, and this has been happening for years,” he concluded.
