Health Ministry secures financial clearance for rotation nurses, house officers

The Ministry of Health (Ghana) has secured financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance (Ghana) to pay allowances and salaries for 14,279 rotation nurses and midwives, as well as 637 medical and dental house officers.

In a press release, the Ministry of Health said the approval follows sustained engagements between the two ministries aimed at ensuring that newly trained health professionals receive the necessary financial support while undertaking their mandatory service and professional training.

According to the statement, the clearance for nurses covers several key categories, including Registered General Nurses, Registered Midwives, Registered Mental Health Nurses, Registered Community Health Nurses, and Registered Public Health Nurses who began their rotations last year and are expected to complete them this year.

The ministry also announced that financial clearance has been granted for the payment of salaries to 637 medical and dental house officers who graduated from both public and private institutions, passed the Medical and Dental Council (Ghana) examinations, and were inducted into service on November 12, 2025.

The Ministry noted that the approvals will help settle outstanding payment arrears from previous years and also pave the way for a new policy that ensures monthly payment of allowances for health professionals undertaking mandatory service.

This policy replaces the earlier system where payments—especially for nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals—were accumulated and paid at the end of the service period.

The Ministry added that it will continue working closely with the Ministry of Finance and other stakeholders to ensure health workers are adequately supported to deliver quality healthcare services nationwide.
