NPP diaspora pushes unity agenda, endorses Matthew Opoku Prempeh as 2028 running mate option

The diaspora wing of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stepped up its political engagement ahead of the 2028 general elections, rallying party members around a message of unity and openly endorsing Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as a preferred running mate option for the next presidential ticket.

The endorsement was made in Accra during a ceremony at which the party’s external branches presented a citation to Dr. Opoku Prempeh in recognition of his support for diaspora-related initiatives and his contributions to governance during the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Speaking on behalf of the diaspora branches, Engineer Raymond Boateng, Vice Chairman of the NPP Massachusetts, USA Branch, underscored the need for internal cohesion following the party’s presidential primaries. He stressed that unity, reconciliation, and strategic organisation must take precedence over factional interests if the NPP is to successfully reposition itself and recapture political power in 2028.

“We believe that internal cohesion must come before personal or factional considerations if the party is to project a strong presidential candidate and return to government,” Engineer Boateng said. “The NPP’s external branches remain fully committed to supporting party structures in Ghana and will continue to engage leadership to promote reconciliation, mobilisation, and effective campaign organisation.”

The citation presented to Dr. Opoku Prempeh highlighted his consistent engagement with Ghanaians living abroad, as well as his role in policy implementation and governance during the previous administration. According to the diaspora leadership, these attributes make him a strategic asset as the party begins to shape its electoral message and leadership configuration for the next cycle.

Engineer Boateng further appealed to the party hierarchy to consider continuity in leade
