The Ghana Armed Forces will formally hand over a 175.6km cleared right-of-way for the Accra-Kumasi Expressway to government on Monday 14th September, 2026.
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to receive the cleared land at Kwaso, near Ejisu, in a ceremony marking a major step toward construction of the 198.7km expressway. The right-of-way, the full width of land legally acquired and reserved for the road's construction, operation, maintenance and future expansion, was cleared by the 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces ahead of building works.
Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced the development in a Facebook post, describing the expressway as the single largest capital investment by any government in Ghana's history. He said the handover of the cleared right-of-way "will pave the way for construction" of the project.
The Accra-Kumasi Expressway is intended to significantly improve connectivity between the capital and Ghana's second city, a corridor long strained by traffic congestion on the existing route. Monday's ceremony formalises the land clearance phase and is expected to open the way for construction contractors to begin work on the road itself.
