Parliament has clarified a notice displayed on its notice board indicating that there was “No Vacancy for National Service Personnel 2026/2027.”
The notice, which instructed prospective national service personnel to seek reposting, generated public discussion on social media, with some interpreting it as a decision by Parliament to suspend the placement of national service personnel.
However, Parliament has dismissed such interpretations, describing the notice as a routine administrative communication, according to a statement signed by the Director of Media Relations, David Sebastine Damoah, on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Parliament said the notice was issued because it had received more national service personnel than it could accommodate for the 2026/2027 service year.
Parliament explained that the affected personnel were advised to seek reposting to other institutions, stressing that the notice was not a policy decision.
“The notice has been misconstrued. It was not a policy statement, a freeze on national service placements, or a reflection of any change in Parliament's support for the National Service Scheme,” the statement read.
Parliament reiterated its commitment to the National Service Scheme and said it values the contribution of service personnel to its work.
The institution also expressed regret over the confusion and inconvenience caused by the wording of the notice.
