The Member of Parliament for Agona East and Chairperson for the Local Government Committee in Parliament, Queenstar Pokuah Sawyerr, has donated working tools to about 400 young people under the National Youth Authority (NYA) apprenticeship initiative and officially commissioned a new NYA office in the constituency, on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

The items distributed include hair dryers, sewing machines, ovens and gas cylinders among others to beneficiaries to help them put acquired skills into practice and build sustainable livelihoods.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Sawyerr, popularly known as Obaatanpa Maame Pokuah, reiterated that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is committed to putting Ghana back on track, with particular attention to creating opportunities for the youth.

“Training alone is not enough, but providing the necessary tools ensures our young people can start businesses, support themselves and contribute to the local economy," she stated.

She further assured the beneficiaries that more equipment will be provided to support other young people, as the government continues to prioritise youth empowerment and skills development.

She emphasized that, the new NYA office is expected to strengthen the Authority’s local operations and improve access to skills training and youth services across the constituency.

The Regional Coordinator for the National Youth Authority, Mr Abeiku Essien, also commended the government for the intervention and expressed confidence that equipping young people with both skills and tools will contribute to job creation and economic development in the area.

He urged beneficiaries to use their skills and remain humble to benefit from the initiative introduced by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, and called on parents to support their children in taking advantage of the programme. He also appealed for continued support and votes for the NDC at the next general election so the government can sustain its youth‑empowerment efforts and help young people become self‑sufficient.

"President Mahama is really doing well with this youth empowerment programme so I urge you all to take advantage of it and make good use of it, I urge you parents to continue to support the NDC government to remain in office to do more for our youths," he said.
