Police have arrested five suspected armed robbers and landguards in Sapeiman, recovering firearms and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in the Greater Accra Region.

The operation, conducted on July 17 by the Accra Regional Police Command in collaboration with the National Police Intelligence Directorate (NPID), led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition and other offensive weapons allegedly used by the group.

The suspects have been identified as Torgbui Agah Semaglo, 50; Shadrach Agah Semaglo, 22; William Kweku Sedanu, 21; Cyril Kassenu, 26; and Kingsford Agah Semaglo, 18.

In a statement issued on July 20, 2026, the police said intelligence gathered by investigators led officers to the suspects' premises, where a search uncovered one pump-action gun, a Stoeger ST-R9 pistol, a dummy Austria pistol, a jackknife, a face mask, 12 BB cartridges, three rounds of 9mm ammunition, one round of AK-47 ammunition, a talisman and two kitchen knives.

Police said all the recovered items have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

Preliminary investigations indicate the suspects are believed to be members of a criminal group linked to armed robbery and landguard activities. The police further alleged that the group used the seized weapons to terrorise residents of Sapeiman and surrounding communities.

The suspects remain in police custody and are assisting investigators. Police say inquiries are continuing to establish whether the group is connected to other robbery cases, while efforts are underway to identify and arrest additional suspects.
