The Government of Ghana has secured the lifting of restrictions on exports of eggs to Burkina Faso and agreed measures to facilitate tomato imports, following urgent talks in Ouagadougou on Friday.

The breakthrough came after a delegation led by Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, met Burkinabe authorities to resolve recent trade frictions.

The talks followed a Burkinabe precautionary ban on eggs from parts of Ghana, particularly Dormaa, linked to concerns over product quality.

In a joint statement, the ministries said the engagement produced “concrete, positive outcomes” and assured poultry and egg exporters, as well as tomato importers, that the government remains committed to protecting their interests.

Both countries agreed to establish a Joint Technical Committee to monitor and resolve future trade issues quickly.

They also committed to negotiating a Bilateral Trade Agreement aimed at strengthening ties, reducing barriers and improving market access for goods and services.

Hon. Ofosu‑Adjare told Burkinabe counterparts that Ghana will send a high‑level delegation to the International Arts & Crafts Trade Fair (SIAO) in Burkina Faso, showcasing “products and services made in Ghana."

"The Burkina Faso trade corridor is one of the fast-growing in the sub-region with Ghana's exports to Burkina increasing steadily from US$573M in 2024 to US$637M in 2025," it said.

The Ghanaian delegation included HE Sem Kenneth Akibate, Ghana’s Ambassador to Burkina Faso; the Head of Chancery; technical officials from MOTAI; and private‑sector representatives such as Dr. Ernest Appiah, Managing Director of Agricultural Manufacturing Group (AMG), AMG’s Burkina representative, and Sylvester Asante, chairman of the Dormaa Egg Exporters Association.

Delegates from both countries reaffirmed their commitment to keeping bilateral trade unimpeded and pledged to build on the engagement “in the interest of traders, producers and consumers” on both sides.
