Physician and political activist Dr. Kobina Arthur Kennedy has expressed his belief that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should be given a chance to serve as President of Ghana in 2029.

Dr. Bawumia, who won the NPP presidential primary, is currently the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections. During a discussion on Joy News’ late-night show, Dr. Arthur Kennedy urged Ghanaians to support Dr. Bawumia, stating, “we should all give Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia a chance because a Vice President and a presidential candidate are normally different people.”

He provided examples of successful vice presidents who became effective presidents, citing Anwar Sadat, who was perceived as cowardly while serving under Nassar, yet proved to be a very effective President in his own right.

He also mentioned Richard Nixon, who was not particularly impressive as Dwight Eisenhower's Vice President but went on to perform excellently as President, until the Watergate scandal.

Dr. Arthur Kennedy is confident that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has the potential to be a great President who can propel Ghana forward. He urged Ghanaians to elect him in the upcoming 2028 general elections.

Having previously served as a senior campaign official for former President Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr. Kennedy distanced himself from the New Patriotic Party until now, when he reposes confidence in Dr. Bawumia.

His public endorsement marks a significant statement regarding Bawumia’s suitability for the presidency, contrasting sharply with Dr. Kennedy's earlier criticisms of the previous government's policies.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia boasts a solid track record and is credited with numerous policies that the current Mahama administration is now leveraging to strengthen the economy. Notably, he spearheaded the gold purchase and gold-for-reserve programmes, which the current administration is using to stabilise the nation's currency.

Furthermore, he is recognised as the brain behind the effective implementation of the Ghana Card, which the Bank of Ghana, under the leadership of Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama, has mandated be used as a reliable identity card for all banking transactions.

These initiatives, along with others championed by Dr. Bawumia during his tenure as Vice President, have significantly aided Ghana’s economy. Consequently, many citizens hold hope that he will advance the country’s economic prosperity when he becomes President.
