A commercial motorbike rider has died after a fatal collision involving a Toyota Ranger pickup on the Akyempim–Atieku main road in the Wassa East District of the Western Region.
The accident occurred on Wednesday at about 5:20 p.m., leaving the rider with severe injuries that proved fatal shortly after the crash.
According to eyewitness accounts and information gathered from the scene, the Toyota Ranger pickup with registration number GN 2772-24 collided with the motorbike under unclear circumstances. The impact reportedly threw the rider beneath the vehicle, trapping him underneath and causing extensive injuries.
Emergency attempts to rescue him proved unsuccessful, as he was pronounced dead shortly after the incident. The identity of the deceased rider has not yet been established. He is believed to be a commercial “okada” operator working along the busy stretch of road.
Eyewitnesses described a distressing scene, noting that the rider suffered critical injuries and struggled for survival before passing away at the scene.
The circumstances leading to the crash remain under investigation. Police are expected to determine whether speeding, mechanical fault, or human error contributed to the accident.
The body of the deceased has since been conveyed for preservation and identification as inquiries continue.
