GBC secures exclusive free‑to‑air rights for FIFA World Cup 2026 as National TV consortium formed

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has secured the exclusive terrestrial (free‑to‑air) broadcast rights for the FIFA World Cup 2026, the corporation announced, with support from the Government of Ghana.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations Department of the GBC, it emphasised that it has set up a National Broadcast Consortium to ensure nationwide access to the tournament and to allow Ghanaians to follow the Black Stars.

The consortium pools technical, marketing and broadcasting resources to maximise reach.

Authorised television partners licensed to air World Cup matches through the Ghana TV Consortium include: GBC channels: GTV, GTV Sports+, Garden City TV, Obonu TV, Multimedia Group: Adom TV, Joy Prime, EIB Network: GHOne TV, Agoo TV, Ignite Media: Metro TV, Original TV , Media General: TV3, Onua TV, Max TV , Sporty TV, Woezor TV, UTV.

It stressed that, Radio stations wishing to broadcast matches must acquire a sub‑licence from GBC; unauthorised radio broadcasts are prohibited. Interested stations should contact GBC’s licensing team at 030 395 9605, 055 252 0699 or 020 398 0634.

GBC said the consortium will offer commercial and sponsorship packages across television, radio and digital platforms. Brands and partners should contact the marketing team at 020 510 7705 or 030 395 9605 for enquiries.

GBC, FIFA and New World TV warned that any unauthorised broadcast, re‑broadcast, streaming, public viewing, exhibition or commercial distribution of World Cup content within Ghana is strictly prohibited.

The Ghana TV Consortium will monitor all platforms, including digital and social media, and said infringers will face legal action and regulatory sanctions.
