Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem South Constituency, Lawrencia Adwoa Dziwornu, has commended the Black Queens for booking a quarter‑finals berth at the ongoing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The team secured qualification on Thursday, August 6, after a 1‑1 draw with Mali, finishing the group on four points in second place behind Cameroon.

Evelyn Badu scored Ghana’s goal with a well-rehearsed header in the first half to give her side the lead, before the Malians equalised through a deflected free‑kick in the second half.

Ghana will now face debutants Malawi on Sunday, August 9, in the fourth quarter‑final fixture at 8:00 p.m.

Commenting on the team’s progress, the MP and member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports congratulated them for exhibiting determination and resilience.

“Congratulations to our gallant Black Queens on securing qualification to the quarter‑finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after finishing second in Group D.

"The final minutes against Mali tested the nerves of every Ghanaian supporter, but the Queens showed resilience, composure and determination to earn the point they needed to progress,” she stated.

Madam Dziwornu described Ghana’s quarter‑final fixture with Malawi as an “advantage” and “boost” to going further in the competition, noting that it allowed the team to avoid powerhouse and defending champions Nigeria.

She emphasised that victory in the next challenge would not only secure a semi‑final spot but also guarantee Ghana’s return to the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time since 2007.

The MP called on Ghanaians to rally behind the Queens, expressing belief that they can achieve their dreams in the tournament.

“Let’s continue to rally behind our Black Queens. The dream is alive, and the nation believes in you. Go Black Queens,” she pledged on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Ghana won bronze in the last edition of the tournament in 2024, hosted by Morocco.
