A teacher and hostel caretaker at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School has been arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command after a video showing him assaulting an 18‑year‑old female student went viral.
According to a press release signed by the Assistant Superintendent of Police Staff Officer, Augustine Antwi, the suspect identified as Mr Eric Buernortey Apaflo, 39, was arrested on June 8, 2026 at about 7:00 pm by a Nyinahin District police patrol team following reports of the incident involving student Patience Chibu.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Mr Apaflo confronted the student and some male pupils over alleged misconduct in the school hostel.
A misunderstanding during the confrontation reportedly led to him assaulting the female student. The attack was recorded and widely shared on social media, prompting public outrage.
The assault also provoked unrest on campus, with some students said to have pelted stones at the suspect and invited local youths to the hostel in an attempt to attack him.
Police patrols intervened promptly and brought the situation under control.
A Police Medical Report Form has been issued for the victim and she has been referred for medical examination and treatment. Mr Apaflo remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has urged the public to remain calm and to resolve grievances through lawful and peaceful means, as the case remains under active investigation.
