Former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, has been extradited from the United States to Ghana to begin serving a 10-year prison sentence imposed by the Accra High Court in a major corruption-related case.
The U.S. Embassy in Ghana confirmed her arrival on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, describing the development as part of strengthened law enforcement cooperation between both countries.
In a Facebook post, the Embassy said the extradition underscores a shared commitment to accountability and cross-border justice enforcement.
“The United States has extradited Sedina Tamakloe Attionu to Ghana, following her conviction on 70+ corruption-related charges, including embezzling more than $6M equivalent in Ghanaian taxpayer funds,” the Embassy stated.
It added that “Justice has no borders,” highlighting ongoing collaboration between U.S. and Ghanaian authorities in tackling financial crimes and enforcing judicial decisions.
Sedina Tamakloe Attionu’s extradition follows a prolonged legal process initiated by the Government of Ghana after she reportedly failed to return to the country following a medical trip to the United States.
Authorities say she is expected to be processed into custody to commence the execution of her sentence handed down by the Accra High Court.
Her return marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s extradition history, becoming the first such transfer from the United States since 2009.
