U.S. investors led by Newark mayor explore trade and investment opportunities in Ghana

A delegation of U.S. investors led by Newark, New Jersey Mayor Ras J. Baraka, has paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations and Communications Update of the Ministry, the visit, organised at the invitation of the Ga Mantse as part of the Ga State Festival activities, gave the delegation firsthand insight into Ghana’s business environment and potential across multiple sectors.

Beyond participating in the festival, the delegation held discussions with ministry officials to identify areas for collaboration and investment.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and Minister Elizabeth Ofosu‑Adjare, Deputy Minister Sampson Ahi, emphasised Ghana’s readiness to attract and support foreign investors.

He pointed to the country’s stable democratic governance, peaceful business climate, and strong economic fundamentals as key reasons investors should consider Ghana as a gateway to West Africa and the wider continent.

Minister Ahi also highlighted the extension of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), saying the initiative offers significant advantages for investors seeking to establish businesses in Ghana and reach international markets.

He urged the delegation to consider opportunities in agribusiness, energy, and infrastructure sectors as he described as offering substantial prospects for growth and partnership.

Speaking for the delegation, Mayor Ras J. Baraka thanked the ministry for the warm reception and reiterated the group’s commitment to building mutually beneficial partnerships with Ghana.

He invited the ministry to participate in a Festival and Business Summit scheduled for October in New York, which aims to convene business leaders, investors, and policymakers from both countries.
