GNFS rescues 17 victims, as 3 die in Woadze road crash near Kpeve

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service at the Peki Fire Station have rescued 17 people and retrieved 3 bodies following a fatal road traffic crash at Woadze on the Kpeve–Asikuma road in the Volta Region.

According to the GNFS, it received a call at 09:58 a.m. and found a Mercedes‑Benz commercial vehicle (registration GR 8231 C), travelling from Abotuase to Ningo, badly damaged. 

The vehicle was carrying twenty (20) passengers, comprising eleven (11) males, five (5) females, and four (4) children. 

Rescue teams extricated thirteen (13) adults and four children from the wreckage.

GNFS confirmed that three (3) fatalities, including two (2) males and a female. 

Injured and deceased victims were conveyed by personnel from the Ghana Police Service (Kpando Divisional Command) and the Ghana Ambulance Service (Afadjato and Juapong) to Kpando Government Hospital and Peki Government Hospital for treatment, preservation, and further investigation.

The GNFS said the cause of the crash is under investigation and urged motorists to observe road safety regulations and avoid excessive speeding.
