Ghana midfielder Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has taken a major step in his recovery after returning to full first-team training with German Bundesliga side SC Freiburg, nearly three years after suffering a serious knee injury.
The 28-year-old has been sidelined since February 2023 after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), an injury that required surgery and an extensive rehabilitation process. Although he made progress during recovery, setbacks in 2024 further delayed his return to competitive football.
Kyereh’s perseverance has now paid off, as he successfully completed his first full senior team training session since the injury, marking a significant milestone in his long and challenging comeback journey.
The Ghanaian trained with Freiburg’s first team on Wednesday evening as the club prepared for their UEFA Europa League clash against Maccabi Tel Aviv, a strong indication that he is edging closer to full match fitness.
Kyereh joined Freiburg with high expectations but has so far been limited to 18 appearances, contributing three goals and one assist. His injury struggles interrupted what was expected to be a defining phase of his Bundesliga career.
Before his move to Freiburg, Kyereh enjoyed the most productive spell of his career at St. Pauli, where he established himself as a key figure, scoring 22 goals and providing 21 assists in 67 matches, performances that earned him a move to the top flight.
