GIS intercepts 20 undocumented foreign nationals in Volta Region

The Ghana Immigration Service in the Volta Region has intercepted twenty (20) foreign nationals who entered the country without valid documentation.

The Volta Regional Commander, Peter Yaw Nkrumah, said the individuals were believed to be from Niger, Nigeria, and Togo and that they were reportedly using Ghana as a transit route to Côte d’Ivoire.

“The group of people you see over here are travellers, some are from Northern Nigeria, Burkina Faso from Niger, they are account are conflicting, some say they are going to Madina, some too said they are going to Côte d'Ivoire.

“They are not are not even having the right documents to show us, so right now we don't know where they are going to,” he stated.

He asserted that their accounts were conflicting, explaining that the stories they gave differed from one another, with some claiming to be Nigerians and others Togolese.

He reiterated that they claimed to be coming from Aflao as they crossed the border, noting that they would be returned to the Aflao border they said they were travelling.

“A traveller must know their destination and purpose, not the other way round.

“Since the stories are not the same so the best thing for those in this circumstance is to return them to the entry point where they claim have crossed from, now they must go back to Aflao that they claim they are coming from,” he said.
