The Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has appealed to residents to support her efforts to develop the constituency rather than spread what she describes as false information about her work on social media.

According to her, the constituency faces decades of accumulated development challenges that cannot realistically be resolved within one year.

However, she believes the progress made so far demonstrates that efforts to transform the area have begun.

“I did not create these problems, but I accept responsibility for helping to solve them. And the work has started,” she said in a statement addressing concerns over development in Amenfi Central.

She urged residents to verify allegations and claims circulating on TikTok, Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media platforms before accepting or sharing them.

“I welcome genuine criticism, questions and accountability. But an allegation without evidence should not automatically become truth simply because it is repeated on social media,” she stated.

MPs' initiative so far

The lawmaker highlighted that her administration had, within its first year, created or facilitated opportunities for more than 300 graduates and non-graduates.

She has supported teachers and educational initiatives, assisted students with their educational needs, and pursued projects in education, healthcare, water, electricity, and other sectors.

The MP also cited support for women, businesses and farmers, as well as assistance for people requiring medical treatment and surgeries.

According to Madam Joana Gyan Cudjoe, she had used her personal resources where possible and lobbied government for larger interventions beyond what an MP could finance personally.

The MP identified roads, telephone and internet connectivity, electricity, healthcare and education as five priority areas requiring urgent attention, stressing that development would require cooperation among government, private-sector actors, development partners and residents.

“One Member of Parliament cannot finance this transformation alone.”

She emphasised and called on the government, ministries and agencies, private-sector organisations, investors, banks, telecommunications companies, development partners, NGOs, philanthropists and the diaspora to partner with Amenfi Central.

Hon. Joana Cudjoe further appealed to residents to put aside political differences and unite around the development of the constituency.

She argued that challenges such as poor roads, inadequate electricity, poor network connectivity and limited healthcare affect residents regardless of their political affiliation.

“Whether you voted for me or not, I need you. Let us fight the problems, not one another.”

She said she was not asking residents to lower their expectations but to recognise the scale of the task, and support a long-term development plan, which she believes should span between 13 and 20 years while producing measurable progress annually.

In her view, her administration should be judged or held accountable by facts, evidence, timelines and results rather than spreading what she described as misinformation and palpable lies.

"Stop the lies, face reality, recognize the good start. Bring ideas, bring partners, bring investment, bring solutions, and let us build together,” she stated.
