Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur has opened up about the challenges he faced early in his career, revealing that he signed a record contract without fully understanding its terms.
Speaking in an interview with UK-based Wonderland Magazine, the award-winning artiste said the experience has shaped his current advocacy for fairness and transparency within the music industry.
“I signed a contract I didn’t understand when I was young,” he disclosed, adding that he entered the deal at a time when he was “young and hungry” and lacked proper legal guidance or counsel.
Kwesi Arthur explained that his experience has become a personal lesson, which he now hopes to pass on to both younger and older artists in the creative industry.
He stressed the importance of legal awareness before signing contracts, urging artistes to always seek professional advice to avoid unfavourable agreements that could impact their careers in the long term.
Beyond his personal experience, the rapper said he is committed to advocating for fairness for artists across all creative fields, noting that many young talents continue to face similar challenges due to lack of information and support.
Kwesi Arthur’s remarks add to ongoing conversations within the global music industry about artist rights, contract fairness, and the need for stronger protections for emerging creatives.
