Ghana’s Ambassador to Brazil, with concurrent accreditation to 11 other countries, Nii Amasah Namoale, has officially presented his letters of credence to the President of Suriname, Jennifer Geerlings-Simons.
The brief but significant ceremony took place at the presidential office in Paramaribo on Tuesday, March 17, formally recognising Ambassador Namoale as Ghana’s representative to Suriname and paving the way for strengthened diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Presenting his credentials, Ambassador Namoale reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in key areas including trade, investment and cultural exchange. He also underscored the importance of enhancing collaboration within the broader framework of South-South cooperation.
The ambassador highlighted opportunities for partnership in sectors such as agriculture, mining and tourism, noting the vast potential for both countries to work together to promote economic growth and sustainable development.
President Geerlings-Simons, in her response, warmly welcomed the Ghanaian envoy and expressed Suriname’s readiness to strengthen ties with Ghana. She emphasised the shared historical and cultural connections between the two nations, describing them as a solid foundation for expanded cooperation.
Ghana and Suriname are both members of the Caribbean Community and the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States, offering additional avenues for collaboration in trade, investment and development initiatives.
The presentation of credentials marks a significant milestone in Ghana–Suriname relations and is expected to inject new momentum into bilateral engagement. It also forms part of Ghana’s broader efforts to strengthen its diplomatic footprint and promote economic cooperation across regions.
Ambassador Namoale is expected to engage further with senior government officials, business leaders and members of the diplomatic corps during his visit, as both countries explore new opportunities for partnership and deepen people-to-people ties.
