The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has charged Hohoe United with misconduct after reports emerged of crowd trouble during their narrow victory over FC Samartex 1996.
While the hosts secured crucial three points in their bid for top-flight survival, the post-match headlines have been dominated by the behaviour of the home supporters at the Hohoe Sports Stadium.
The GFA alleges that supporters of the Volta Region club breached Section 16(2)(b) of the GFA Disciplinary Code (2019). According to the governing body’s charge sheet, fans threw objects onto the pitch and targeted match officials during the encounter on Sunday, March 1.
The incident marred what was otherwise a jubilant afternoon for the Hohoe faithful, as their side managed to upset the visiting Samartex. On the field, the contest was decided by a moment of clinical efficiency early in the second half.
Kekeli Attor found the net in the 48th minute after a rapid attacking transition caught the Samartex defence off guard, allowing him to finish calmly.
This 1-0 win provides a massive boost to Hohoe United's hopes of escaping the relegation zone in the Ghana Premier League. Despite their success on the pitch, the club now faces an anxious wait.
The GFA has opened a formal investigation into the unrest, and United must now provide an official response to the disciplinary charges. Sanctions for such breaches typically include heavy fines or the possibility of playing future home fixtures behind closed doors.
