Residents of Pepease in the Sekyere Kumawu District have expressed deep concern over the lack of development in the community, warning that poor infrastructure, particularly schools and roads, is endangering lives and undermining education.

They say local schools face serious problems, including overcrowding and the need for major renovation works. Community members, through their own communal efforts, have erected two classrooms to ease pressure, but the project has stalled because the structures lack doors and windows.

The residents added that they have started building a community library up to the roofing level, but that project has also been abandoned due to a lack of funds.

They warned that without external support from government and other stakeholders, these projects cannot be completed, leaving pupils to study in difficult conditions.

Beyond education, residents described the deplorable state of roads in Pepease as their greatest worry.

They said town roads have completely deteriorated, making movement difficult, especially during the rainy season.

They revealed the situation is even more dire on the main road from Kwaman to Pepease, which they say has become a death trap.

Residents disclosed that a huge open pit alongside the road has been claiming lives daily, as vehicles and tricycles, popularly known as Pragia, often veer off and fall into the ditch.

“Just today we received information that a car has somersaulted into the pit. This happens almost everyday. Our lives are in danger,” the residents lamented.

They therefore called on government, through the Department of Urban Roads, to urgently fix metal guard rails or plates along the stretch to prevent further accidents and to protect drivers and pedestrians.

The residents further affirmed that they have made several appeals to the District Chief Executive for Sekyere Kumawu, Kwasi Amankwaa, popularly known as Tom C, but nothing has been done to address their plight.
