George Oti Bonsu, a former financier of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared that he is no longer a member of the governing party, citing what he describes as betrayal by individuals he once supported.
In an interview with Kessben TV, parts of which have circulated widely on social media, Oti Bonsu stated that his decision follows years of dissatisfaction regarding the treatment he received from certain party figures, despite his contributions.
He indicated that remarks made by former Suame Member of Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, played a significant role in prompting his departure from the party.
Mr. Oti Bonsu alleged that the former Majority Leader made unverified claims about him that he believes were intended to damage his reputation.
“Now, as I speak, I am no longer a member of the party because of what they have done to me,” Oti Bonsu stated during the interview.
He further criticised several long-serving party leaders, noting that Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has held prominent positions in the NPP for nearly three decades.
He also mentioned other influential figures within the party, including Kofi Ghana and Bernard Antwi Boasiako, emphasising that they have all occupied key roles over the years.
Mr. Oti Bonsu argued that individuals with the stature and reputation of Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who has served both in Ghana’s Parliament and at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, should be careful when making allegations without proper verification.
“Someone like Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who has so much dignity in Parliament and ECOWAS, should not sit down and make unverified statements about me. I don’t think it is right to tarnish my image in that way,” he said.
His remarks contribute to ongoing discussions within the NPP regarding internal relations and the treatment of long-time supporters of the party.
