'Delays in cocoa payments are preventing tertiary students from paying fees' - TESCON president UEW

The president of the Tertiary Students Confederation (TESCON) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Emmanuel Osei, has expressed concern about the effect of delayed cocoa payments on students.

Speaking at a TESCON meeting, Mr Osei said delays in payments to cocoa farmers are preventing many tertiary students from paying their school fees.

He stressed that the problem does not affect only members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or the New Patriotic Party (NPP), but has implications for all students.

Mr. Osei emphasised that the delays are not only burdening parents at home but are also affecting students on campus.

"Leader, you know that most of us have parents who are farmers, and they depend on this to pay our fees. As we speak now, when you go to our campuses, most of our people are struggling with school fees," he stated.

Mr Osei added that the NDC government had promised nursing students automatic postings after graduation, yet many have not seen any progress, which is also worsening their situation.

"Leader, we have our colleagues from the nursing college here; they promised them automatic posting. We have not seen anything," he uttered.
