Manhyia South MP sues Akwatia MP, Blakk Rasta over alleged false statements

Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has filed a Writ of Summons against Akwatia MP Bernard Bediako Baidoo and Blakk Rasta over alleged false statements.

The legal action, announced in a statement dated September 28, 2026, follows what the lawmaker described as the publication of falsehoods against his person. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah named Bernard Bediako Baidoo, MP for Akwatia, and broadcaster Abubakar Alhassan, popularly known as Blakk Rasta, as the persons against whom the writ was filed.

“I have today, 28th September 2026, filed a Writ of Summons against the underlisted persons for spewing falsehoods against my person,” he stated.

The Manhyia South MP said he had deliberately chosen the civil courts to seek redress rather than pursue criminal prosecution over the alleged publication of false information. He described the approach as choosing “the path of democrats” and democratic accountability.

The lawsuit comes amid a wider dispute involving Salomey Awiti Baffoe and Camilla Alhassan, whom the MP says are in police custody. Baffour Awuah alleges that Salomey Baffoe, a mother of three minor children, was taken into custody by state security agents late on Saturday.

Baffour Awuah has characterised the developments as an attempt by state security agencies to intimidate and silence him over his efforts to secure the two women’s release. He said the alleged intimidation had failed and that he would continue pursuing the matter through lawful and constitutional means.

“I remain committed to fighting for Madam Salomey Awiti Bafoh’s liberty as well as Camilla Alhassan to ensure that they are reunited with their family who await their return,” he said.

The latest legal action also follows a separate controversy involving an attempted arrest of the Manhyia South MP by Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) officials. EOCO said its officers sought to take him into custody as part of an ongoing investigation, while Baffour Awuah has disputed the agency’s account and maintained that the matter concerned his role as a lawyer representing a client.

Baffour Awuah has not publicly specified in the September 28 statement the particular comments or publications by Bernard Bediako Baidoo and Blakk Rasta that form the basis of the civil action. The claims against the two defendants therefore remain matters to be determined through the legal process.
