NPP Communications Director Richard Ahiagbah has announced his bid for the national first vice chairmanship position, pledging to strengthen party unity, discipline, and grassroots mobilisation.

In his declaration of intent, which has been widely circulated online, Ahiagbah said the NPP must regroup with renewed purpose following its defeat in the 2024 general elections. He stressed that the party's resurgence would depend on recommitting to its founding principles of liberty, the rule of law and free-market governance.

Placing discipline at the centre of his campaign, Ahiagbah argued that a strong organisational culture was essential to restoring the party's fortunes. "That is why our reorganisation must produce disciplined leaders," he said, adding that "without discipline there can be no cohesion, and without cohesion there can be no unity."

He urged delegates to elect a national first vice chairman during the party's national delegates conference on September 19, 2026, who can work closely with the National Chairman to strengthen party structures and reconnect with members at the grassroots.

Ahiagbah outlined a five-point agenda centred on renewing the NPP's liberal-conservative values, improving administration across all levels of the party, promoting accountability and mutual respect, fostering greater inclusion, and building what he described as "a united, election-ready party."

While acknowledging that Ghanaians are demanding a new generation of leadership, Ahiagbah maintained that the NPP remains "Ghana's best path to prosperity, strong leadership, and good governance." He added, "I am prepared to meet those expectations," as he appealed to delegates for their "vote, guidance, and prayers."

The NPP is expected to elect new national officers in September as part of its reorganisation following its 2024 electoral defeat. The exercise forms part of the party's broader strategy to rebuild and position itself to challenge for power in the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
