The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential flagbearer aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, has urged his followers to stay composed and united as the results from the party’s presidential primaries continue to be revealed.
Speaking to the press after initial results from various constituencies indicated that he was lagging behind in the race, Agyapong highlighted the necessity of discipline and respect for the party’s democratic procedures.
He noted that the outcome represents the will of the delegates and should be embraced in sincerity.
“We need to be calm and trust the party. The delegates have made their choice, and we must respect it,” he articulated.
He cautioned his supporters against expressing anger towards other party members or partaking in actions that could threaten party cohesion.
“Let no one use this situation to attack anyone in the party. Once a decision has been made, we must all unite and progress together,” he implored.
Reflecting on his extensive political journey, Agyapong acknowledged that challenges are a common aspect of political life.
“In politics, sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. I am not unfamiliar with this; I have known defeat before,” he commented.
He disclosed that he had emotionally prepared himself for any potential result.
“I had already steeled myself for the worst, and it has occurred. But the worst does not equate to the end of existence,” he remarked.
He also dismissed calls for protest voting, warning against the familiar slogan “no Ken, no vote.”
“If the tables were turned and the outcome favoured me, how would the supporters of the other candidates have reacted? So ‘no Ken, no vote’ should not be considered,” he stated.
Agyapong expressed his appreciation to his campaign team for their dedication and effort throughout the journey.
“I want to sincerely thank Team Ken for the remarkable effort you all exerted. We put in hard work, but God's timing is always perfect. He knows what is best for us,” he expressed.
He concluded by encouraging his supporters to remain hopeful despite their disillusionment.
“I know many of you are feeling downhearted, but keep your spirits high. As long as we are alive, we still possess everything,” he affirmed.
