The Ministry of Health has expressed strong support for the court conviction of Desmond Bosomtwe for assaulting a midwife at the Tema Community 22 Polyclinic.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry, they welcomed the court’s penalties of a GHC 1,200 fine, a bond of good behaviour, restricted access to the facility, and GHC 5,000 in compensation to the victim, saying the judgment underscores the need to protect health workers from abuse.
The Ministry commended the Ghana Police Service for its role in investigating and prosecuting the case, and warned that acts of violence against health personnel will not be tolerated.
It added that the ruling should serve as a clear deterrent to anyone who might consider assaulting health staff.
The Ministry said it will continue to support measures that uphold professionalism, accountability and the safety of all health workers.
