As global preparations intensify ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Navala Travel Health is positioning itself as a game-changer in travel medical support, promising to reduce medical risks for international fans and tourists through real-time, destination-based healthcare access.
Speaking in an interview, Dr Fungisai Nota, Chief Executive Officer of Navala Travel Health, said the platform was developed in response to a longstanding concern among travellers visiting emerging and developing destinations — uncertainty about access to quality healthcare while abroad.
According to Dr Nota, many international tourists remain hesitant due to fear of falling ill in unfamiliar healthcare systems.
“People are sometimes afraid to travel because they worry, what if I get sick while I’m there? Is the healthcare system going to be able to provide the best care?” he noted.
He explained that Navala Travel Health seeks to reduce this “perceived risk” while also positioning participating destinations as “health-safety-conscious” countries offering both tourism and reliable medical care.
A Shift From Traditional Travel Insurance
Unlike conventional travel insurance systems that require travellers to pay upfront and later file reimbursement claims, Navala Travel Health adopts what Dr Nota describes as a “warm-handed” approach to medical care.
Under the system, users are directly connected to pre-vetted doctors and healthcare providers in major host cities across the 2026 World Cup tournament.
For the World Cup, the platform says it has already credentialed medical professionals across all 11 host cities in the United States.
Dr Nota explained the process using an example of how the system works in real time.
“If you are in Philadelphia and you get sick, you can go on our app, speak to a registered nurse concierge, and be directed to the right doctor,” he said.
He added that users can also access telehealth consultations instantly through the platform. “If necessary, we coordinate your transport to a clinic,” he said. The system also removes upfront payment requirements for selected services, as consultations and treatments are included within subscription packages.
Emergency and Everyday Travel Care
The platform focuses heavily on travel-related medical conditions commonly experienced by international travellers.
These include stomach infections, headaches, dehydration, medication refills, and general health issues linked to environmental and lifestyle changes during travel.
Dr Nota said the system is designed to respond quickly to both minor and emergency medical concerns. “We deal mostly with travel emergency health services,” he said. “If you forget your medication or develop symptoms due to environmental change, we can connect you to a doctor quickly and even arrange prescriptions locally.”
Affordability and Flexible Packages
On pricing, Navala Travel Health says it has developed flexible packages to cater for individuals, families, and group travellers.
According to Dr Nota, affordability was a key consideration in designing the platform’s structure.
“We believe it is one of the most affordable plans available,” he stated.
He added that subscribers also benefit from concierge support and covered initial consultations depending on their package.
Expanding Beyond the World Cup
While the 2026 FIFA World Cup is a major focus, Navala Travel Health is also expanding its operations in Ghana as part of its broader global rollout strategy. The company is onboarding healthcare facilities across Greater Accra, Kumasi, Cape Coast, and Koforidua.
These facilities are being integrated into the platform to allow both inbound and outbound travellers to access care seamlessly.
Dr Nota said the goal is to build a connected healthcare ecosystem that works across borders.
Interestingly, the system also allows users to link their home-country doctors to local physicians abroad, enabling coordinated treatment across jurisdictions.

Pre-Travel Wellness and Global Coordination
Beyond emergency response, the platform also provides pre-travel health support services.
These include vaccination guidance, medication planning, and personalised health preparation checklists for travellers.
“Our goal is to ensure travellers are prepared before they even leave home,” Dr Nota said.
He explained that prevention is a key part of the platform’s healthcare model.
Strengthening Ghana’s Health Tourism Image
According to Dr Fungisai Nota, Navala Travel Health also forms part of a broader ambition to position Ghana as a competitive destination for health tourism.
He noted that while Ghana has made significant investments in healthcare infrastructure, accessibility and visibility remain challenges for international visitors. The platform, he said, is intended to bridge that gap by connecting tourists directly to verified medical providers and facilities.
Ultimately, Navala Travel Health hopes to strengthen Ghana’s reputation as a destination where tourism and quality healthcare coexist seamlessly.
