Building collapse in North Industrial Area; at least two rescued, others feared trapped

A building has collapsed in the North Industrial Area in the early hours of Sunday, June 7, 2026, trapping several people under the rubble.

According to reports, the incident occurred at about 4:25 a.m. near the Melcom Plus area at Avenor, Accra.

Emergency services including crews from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces were dispatched immediately.

Firefighters from the Circle Fire Station and GNFS Headquarters were among the first responders and are conducting intensive search-and-rescue operations using specialised equipment.

Rescue teams have already extricated two victims and rushed them to hospital; preliminary eyewitness reports said one person had been rescued earlier and taken for medical attention.

A number of others are feared still trapped beneath concrete slabs and twisted metal. Officials at the scene have cordoned off the area to facilitate the rescue exercise and to prevent further casualties.

Rescue crews are working against the clock amid concerns about the stability of parts of the collapsed structure. Heavy equipment is expected to be deployed to remove large debris and assist access to trapped victims.

GNFS rescuers from Circle Fire Station and Headquarters remain at the scene as operations continue. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
