Health Minister’s team visits assaulted midwife, vows support and justice

A six-member delegation from the Ministry of Health has visited the senior staff midwife who was recently assaulted while on duty at Tema Community 22 Polyclinic in Ashaiman.

They expressed solidarity and offered support on behalf of Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

The team, sent at the Minister’s instance, included Mrs. Eva Mensah, Director of Nursing Services at the Ghana Health Service; Mr. Emmanuel Tadi, Deputy Director in Charge of Administration; Mr. Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions and Spokesperson for the Ministry; Mad. Issahaque Hasnawu, Head of the Labour Relations Unit; Mrs. Vivian Dwira, Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer; and Mr. John Ntiedado, Senior Human Resource Officer.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Health, it stated that during the visit the delegation conveyed the Minister’s concern about the attack and reassured the midwife of the Ministry’s full support as investigations continue.

They reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the safety, security and well‑being of health workers across the country, and affirmed that the Ministry and its agencies would provide necessary assistance to the victim.

In a strong statement, the Ministry of Health condemned all forms of violence against health workers and called on the public to respect and protect healthcare professionals who devote their lives to patient care.

The Ministry emphasised that violence, intimidation and abuse of health staff are unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The delegation reminded the public that healthcare facilities should be places of healing, care and compassion, where staff can perform their duties in a safe and secure environment free from harassment, threats or physical attack.

It warned that acts of violence against health professionals not only endanger individual lives but also disrupt delivery of critical healthcare services to patients.

The Ministry said it stands in solidarity with the affected midwife, the staff of Tema Community 22 Polyclinic, and all health workers across Ghana.

It added that it remains committed to protecting healthcare workers and to strengthening security measures at health facilities nationwide to ensure continued delivery of quality healthcare services to all Ghanaians.
