Gender Ministry mourns two pupils killed in Assin Edubiase school bus crash

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has expressed grief over the death of two pupils of Alice Elites Academy following a tragic school bus accident at Assin Edubiase in the Central Region, while assuring affected families of government support.

In a statement issued on June 3, 2026, the Ministry described the incident as deeply heartbreaking and extended condolences to the bereaved families, injured victims, and the entire school community.

"The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection extends its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased children and sympathises with those injured in this tragic accident," the statement said.

The Ministry noted that the loss of the young pupils had left families and the school community devastated, adding that its thoughts and prayers remain with all those affected by the tragedy.

It also assured the victims' families and the school of psychosocial support as they cope with the aftermath of the accident.

"Government remains committed to providing psychosocial support to the bereaved families and the school community during this difficult time," the Ministry stated.

The Ministry further commended emergency responders and the Ghana Police Service for their swift intervention in rescuing victims and managing the situation.

It noted that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing and stressed the need for accountability and stronger measures to safeguard children.

"We urge all stakeholders to prioritise the safety of children and ensure accountability in matters that affect their welfare," the statement added.

The accident, which occurred at Assin Edubiase in the Central Region, claimed the lives of two pupils of Alice Elites Academy and left several others injured, prompting national concern and calls for enhanced safety measures for school transportation.
