The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Afigya Kwabre South in the Ashanti Region, Patricia Pearl Ankrah, has taken steps to alleviate persistent traffic congestion at Buoho by designating a parking zone for commercial vehicles and reiterating calls for urgent repairs to the damaged ECOWAS road.
Speaking during a district-led sanitation exercise at Buoho, Hon. Ankrah said the assembly had set aside a special parking area to prevent commercial drivers from parking along the roadside, a practice she identified as a major cause of congestion.
She added that the road’s poor condition was exacerbating the problem.
According to her, riddled with open manholes and potholes, the stretch often damages heavy vehicles and further slows traffic.
She believes that, as part of the ECOWAS road network, the situation requires immediate attention to make it motorable and safe.
“The road needs urgent repairs to make it motorable,” she said.
The cleanup exercise attracted strong participation from residents and traditional authorities. Hon. Ankrah commended the turnout and urged residents to maintain good sanitation practices to preserve a clean and healthy environment.
The District Environmental Health Analyst, Mr Kwame Kusi Agyemang Badu, noted a marked improvement compared with last month’s exercise at Afrancho, which saw low turnout. He attributed the change to enforcement measures, saying residents who missed previous cleanups were brought before the court of law.
He encouraged the community to sustain the momentum and make sanitation a regular habit.
