The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially announced the opening of nominations for its nationwide branch elections, marking the start of a key internal democratic exercise ahead of future political activities.
According to a statement signed by Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, Deputy General Secretary (Finance and Administration), nominations will open from May 2 to May 16, 2026, across all branches of the party.
The exercise is expected to take place in 40,647 branches within the party’s 276 constituencies nationwide, forming a critical part of the NDC’s internal reorganization and grassroots strengthening efforts.
Nomination forms will be made available online beginning May 2 and can be accessed individually or in bulk via the party’s designated platform. Each form is priced at GHS 20.00. Members are also required to settle their dues through approved channels, including a shortcode payment system or the party’s official website.
The party further disclosed that the branch elections will be conducted between May 20 and June 30, 2026, urging members to approach the process with seriousness and discipline.
Resignation directive for aspirants
In line with party regulations, certain categories of individuals intending to contest in the elections are required to resign within specified timelines. These include Ministers and Deputy Ministers of State;
Chief Executive Officers, Managing Directors and their deputies; and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
Affected persons are expected to resign on or before April 30, May 14, and June 7, 2026, respectively, depending on the level of election they seek to contest.
The NDC emphasised that the directive is in accordance with guidelines approved by its National Executive Committee (NEC), aimed at ensuring fairness and integrity in the electoral process.
Call for unity and participation
The party has called on its members to actively participate in the exercise while upholding the values of unity, fairness, and discipline throughout the process.
The upcoming branch elections are widely seen as a foundational step in shaping the party’s structure and readiness for future national engagements.
