‘I wish to assure you our economy is resilient’ — President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that the economy is resilient under his administration.

Speaking during his tour of the resetting Ghana Tourism programme in the Northern region, he said his government met foreign reserve levels of about $8.3 billion, and has been able to raise them to approximately $13.9 billion, even amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

“I wish to assure you our economy is resilient when we came we met $8.3 billion worth of reserves, we have built our reserves to $13.9 billion worth of reserves, and so when this Iran Israel and USA war started people harboured the fear that it will affect the economy, I can assure you the economy is resilience,” he stated.

He added that his administration has not been affected by the tensions, noting that they have managed to reduce fuel prices.

He said the cost of diesel should have been GHC 19 per litre, but it has been reduced to GHC 16.10 per litre, adding that efforts are being made to stabilise the economy for the people.

He highlighted that there are ongoing peace talks aimed at resolving differences between the three countries in order to end the war.

President Mahama assured Ghanaians that his government will continue to maintain the current state of the economy so as not to escalate matters further until the war ends, enabling the country to conserve resources and invest more in priorities for the people.

“But our economy is doing well, we are almost coming out from the IMF programme it will end in May next month but we still want to keep the physical discipline it not just because of the IMF we must be able to maintain physical so that we are able to save resources to invest in the things that are important to the people.
