The Deputy Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit (MMT), Haroun Apaw Wiredu, has revealed that 313 buses were sold for scrap at a price of Gh¢2,500 each.
This sale has sparked controversy, with critics questioning the valuation process and alleging potential losses for the state-owned transport company.
According to Mr. Wiredu, the buses were declared unserviceable and sold off, reportedly generating around Gh¢30 million for the government.
However, some stakeholders argue that the buses were undervalued, citing a 2016 valuation report that estimated the buses to be worth more.
In defence of the sale, the Board Chairman of Metro Mass Transit, Ahmed Arthur, stated that the buses were cannibalised and not roadworthy, thereby justifying the lower price.
