Minority engages IMF on Ghana’s economic direction, pushes accountability agenda

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has stepped up its oversight role by engaging officials of the International Monetary Fund on Ghana’s economic outlook, signalling growing parliamentary interest in the country’s fiscal direction and reform programme.

According to a statement issued on Monday, March 16, the Caucus described the meeting as “constructive and mutually beneficial,” stressing the need for sound governance, transparency, and prudent economic management.

The meeting, which was initiated by the Minority, provided a platform for lawmakers to directly present concerns and feedback on recent economic developments, including issues surrounding stability, growth, and policy implementation.

The engagement brought together some of the Minority’s leading figures on economic policy, including Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Kweku Agyeman Kwarteng, Abena Osei-Asare, and Collins Adomako-Mensah.

Also present was Dr. Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, underscoring the political significance of the engagement.

On the IMF side, the delegation was led by Resident Representative Adrian Alter, alongside AFRITAC West 2 Coordinator Razafimahefa Ivohasina Fizara and economist Osa Ahinakwah.

The meeting reflects a broader effort by the Minority to shape the national economic conversation and ensure that Ghana’s engagement with international financial institutions aligns with domestic expectations.

By seeking direct dialogue with the IMF, the Caucus positions itself as a key stakeholder in monitoring policy outcomes and advocating for accountability in economic governance.

With Ghana’s economic recovery still under close watch, such engagements are expected to play a critical role in influencing both policy direction and public confidence.

The Minority maintains that sustained collaboration between policymakers and international partners remains essential to securing long-term stability and inclusive growth.
