Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has expressed his discontent with President John Mahama and his administration for their silence regarding the recent assault on former Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson.
In a press interview, Boadu described the incident, which occurred during the Ablekuma North by-election, as potentially one of the darkest moments in Ghana's electoral history.
“As we speak now, the President has not said anything about it, and the Vice President, who is also a woman, has not yet spoken about it,” he stated.
He highlighted the concerning inability of the police to ensure safety in just three constituencies, where a woman who has previously served as an MP and minister was assaulted in a “brutish manner.”
Mr. Boadu further called upon the highest offices in the country to condemn such a reprehensible assault on women.
“I don’t think that it is right. It should be one of the darkest things that have ever happened to us in our elections, and we expect to hear from him,” he added.
