Ghana announces resolution for Maritime boundary dispute with Togo

The government of Ghana has formally notified the Republic of Togo regarding its decision concerning the Ghana-Togo boundary.

In a statement signed by the spokesperson for the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP), it was noted that the maritime boundary between Ghana and Togo will be delimited through international arbitration under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

This notice follows attempts at negotiation over the past eight years, which have not resulted in an agreed outcome.

The statement, released on Friday, February 20, 2026, indicated that Ghana is taking this step to avoid escalating incidents that have created tensions between some institutions and to promote an amicable resolution.

It concluded that the Presidency is taking this step to contribute to the continued good relationship between the two countries.
