Jane Doe who accused American rapper Jay-Z of rape has now withdrawn her allegations, stating in a new court filing that the claims against the music mogul were false.
In December 2024, Ms. Doe accused Shawn Carter known as Jay-Z, of raping her when she was 13 at an afterparty following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Sean “Diddy” Combs was also named in the lawsuit.
However, on February 2025, the woman and her lawyer, Tony Buzbee, voluntarily dismissed the lawsuit.
In a new court filing obtained by Rolling Stone, the accuser said the allegations against Jay-Z were false and stated that she had never met or spoken with the rapper.
“Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter never raped me, I have never met or spoken to Mr Carter. Mr Carter never engaged in any inappropriate conduct toward me whatsoever. There is no truth to any of my claims against Mr Carter,” She said.
Ms. Doe acknowledged the impact previous allegation had on the musician, writing :
“I understand my false accusations have caused Mr Carter immense pain, suffering, and damage that can never be fully undone.”
James Blair Newman Jr her new lawyer also provided further details about her initial allegations.
He explained that Jane Doe was a victim of sexual assault and that she mistook Jay-Z for the person responsible.
“Our client maintains that she was a victim of sexual assault, but she was entirely mistaken in her allegations identifying Mr Carter, and those allegations were false.
“Mr Carter did not rape her, sexually assault her, engage in any inappropriate conduct towards her, and she has never met him. She sincerely and unconditionally apologises to Mr Carter and his family," he said.
