Ghana's High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal, has emerged winner of the party’s parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency, according to final provisional results released after the polls.
Baba Jamal secured 431 votes to clinch the slot, narrowly beating Hajia Amina Adam, who polled 399 votes in a closely contested race.
Other contenders recorded significantly lower figures, with Mohammed Ramne obtaining 88 votes, Dr. Yakubu Azimdow polling 45 votes, while Najib Sani managed one vote.
The primary, however, was overshadowed by allegations of vote buying and inducement, prompting the NDC National Secretariat to issue a strongly worded statement condemning reported acts of bribery during the exercise.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party announced the immediate commencement of investigations into the allegations and warned that swift and severe sanctions would be applied against any candidate found culpable.
The NDC stressed that the alleged conduct undermines the party’s values, internal democracy, and its broader reset agenda, adding that future incidents could attract harsher penalties, including the possible cancellation of elections.
