The police has arrested six private security guards following a shooting that injured Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo at a residence in Kwabenya on June 21, 2026.
According to a statement signed by Head of Public Affairs for the Greater Accra Region, Ms. Juliana Obeng, officers from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on special duty responded to a distress call from the Kwabenya residence and proceeded to the scene.
On arrival, police found that a ceremony was underway at the home of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, also known as Akofena.
It stated that Hon. Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived at the residence and requested entry but was denied. Armed security personnel at the property allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in injuries to the lawmaker and multiple gunshot marks on her vehicle.
A subsequent search of the premises yielded five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment.
The six arrested private security guards and the recovered exhibits have been transferred to Police Headquarters to assist ongoing investigations.
Police said efforts are continuing to locate and arrest other persons connected with the incident.
