National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has resigned from his position and formally indicated his willingness to contest the National Chairmanship of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a resignation statement, Vanderpuye said his decision follows “careful reflection” and is aimed at enabling him to pursue a national executive position within the governing party, including the top chairmanship role.
“It has been a great honour and privilege to serve His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana in this role,” he stated, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to lead the DRIP initiative.
He said the programme had contributed significantly to improving local infrastructure and livelihoods across communities, adding that he leaves office proud of its achievements.
“My resignation is to enable me pursue a National Executive position within our great party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” he said.
The former Minister for Youth and Sports further declared his readiness to contest the party’s National Chairmanship, positioning himself as a potential successor in the event that current Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia does not seek re-election.
His earlier public comments indicated that his decision to contest the chairmanship would depend on whether Asiedu Nketia enters the race again, noting his respect for the current party leader.
“I wouldn’t want to contest him because he’s my senior brother,” Vanderpuye previously stated, adding that he would only enter the race if the incumbent does not contest.
In his resignation statement, Vanderpuye reaffirmed his loyalty to President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC, stressing that his decision is motivated by a desire to continue serving the party and strengthening democratic institutions.
“I remain fully committed to the vision of President Mahama, the success of his administration, and the ideals of the NDC,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to stakeholders, staff, and development partners who supported the DRIP programme, expressing confidence in its continued success.
