Abu Trica freed after meeting GH¢30 million bail conditions

Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has been released from police custody after meeting the bail conditions imposed by an Accra High Court in connection with alleged romance fraud charges linked to a United States extradition request.

A member of Abu Trica’s legal team, Papa Kofi Essel, confirmed the release on Friday, May 15, stating that his client had successfully satisfied the GH¢30 million bail requirement with two justified sureties.

Speaking to Citi News, Mr Essel described the development as a positive sign of Ghana’s growing respect for the rule of law and the protection of citizens’ fundamental human rights.

“He was released today, May 15. Ghana is advancing in recognising the fundamental human rights of citizens, and the rule of law is working,” he said.

Abu Trica had remained in police custody since December 2025 following an extradition request from the United States over allegations of romance fraud.

The case has attracted significant public attention due to the high-profile nature of the extradition proceedings and the substantial bail amount imposed by the court.

Legal proceedings related to the extradition request are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
