The National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has raised concerns that the military in Ghana could supplant politicians if the Mahama-led NDC administration adopts the ineffective governance and corruption traits characteristic of the previous regime.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah stated that the NDC government represents the final hope for Ghanaians.
Therefore, should it imitate the "create, loot, and share" mentality or display the harmful "yentie obiara" mindset along with favouritism and negligence, it may prompt the military to remove all politicians, including members of the NDC, NPP, and other political factions.
The NDC Chairman made these remarks during a meeting with party supporters at the Sefwi Bekwai Lowcost Pentecost church in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality as part of his recent two-day Thank You Tour in the Western North Region.
"To prevent a military takeover, President Mahama has put forward a comprehensive plan to alleviate economic struggles for Ghanaians, and currently, many citizens are praising the NDC government, referring to it as 'Aban papa aba'," Asiedu Nketiah told the enthusiastic crowd.
He urged NDC supporters to take pride in their affiliation, asserting that soon they would see the fruits of their loyalty to the NDC.
The National Chairman cautioned against being swayed by NPP supporters into exerting undue pressure on their own government, particularly when even their rivals, the NPP loyalists, are acknowledging the government's accomplishments.
The Chairman revealed that the corruption within the preceding NPP regime was so troubling that some committed NPP members secretly joined the NDC to aid in ousting the NPP from power in the upcoming 2024 elections.
He highlighted that even during the NPP's administration, as they mismanaged the economy and imposed severe hardship on Ghanaians with their "y3ntie obiara attitude", they confidently traversed the country proclaiming their intent to "Break the 8".
Consequently, Asiedu Nketiah asserted that it is unsurprising that Ghanaians are enthusiastically recognising the achievements of the current administration after just a year, resonating with the promotional phrase 'Aban papa Aba'.
