Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to youth empowerment Adwumawura Programme.
She described it as a strategic initiative designed to equip young people with skills, funding, and mentorship to build sustainable businesses.
Speaking at the grand durbar of the Aboakyir Festival held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, the Vice President said the programme reflects a deliberate shift from policy formulation to concrete action and measurable results.
According to her, the initiative is anchored on respect for the youth, whom she described as the future of the nation.
"This is to move from policy through concrete action to objective result which are normally and for us all of these should be grounded in respect of our youth who are the future of our country," she said.
She noted that the government is focused on ensuring that young people in communities such as Winneba and across the country have access to entrepreneurship training, skills development, and opportunities in digital innovation.
“We rolled out another flagship initiative, the Adwumawura Programme, aimed at empowering young people with the tools they need to grow their own businesses,” she stated.
The Vice President stressed the importance of nurturing the ideas of young people, adding that with the right support, these ideas can be transformed into viable enterprises that benefit individuals, families, and the broader economy.
“When we are talking about the youth, we need to direct and support them for the ideas in their heads to come to life, for themselves, their friends, and their families,” she said.
She further stated the government’s belief that Ghana’s future lies in the hands of its youth, expressing confidence that initiatives such as Adwumawura will provide them with the necessary tools to succeed.
Beyond youth development, the Vice President commended the people of Effutu for the peace and unity exhibited during the festival. She urged residents to continue upholding values that promote national cohesion and development.
“I want to commend the people of Effutu for the peace and unity, and we pray that this continues to characterise the festival and their lives going forward,” she noted.
She also called on citizens to remain committed to shared national values, emphasizing their importance to the country’s stability and progress.
“As we celebrate Aboakyir, let us honour our ancestors while working together to build a prosperous future driven by culture, empowered by opportunity, and sustained by unity,” she concluded.
