Assin South MP urges Ghanaians to rally for immediate appointment of a Defence Minister

Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South, Rev Ntim Fordjour, has urged Ghanaians to move beyond partisan rhetoric and join the call for the immediate appointment of a Defence Minister.

In a recent interview, he emphasised that the region’s geopolitics and the threats that are probable must concern everyone, adding that Ghana needs full defence oversight to ensure that a Defence Minister is appointed.

He cited internal conflicts currently occurring in the country, including the Binduri conflict, the Bawku conflict, the Sampa conflict, and the Nkwata conflict, as well as galamsey and others.

He noted that these issues should not be downplayed on the basis that internal conflicts are handled by the Ministry of Interior and the Ghana Police Service, as well as National Security, arguing that this is not a sufficient reason to disregard defence leadership.

"We have Binduri conflict, Bawku conflict, Sampa, Nkwata and we have the biggest fight on galamsey, the first time we saw soldiers running for their lives because some party foot soldiers have been embolded by political elite to go after soldiers who have been mandated to safeguard our environment.

"So these are all occurrences that must get all of us to move beyond our partisan rhetorics and join the call, the demand for immediate appointment of a defence minister," he stated this during an interview on GHone TV.

He added that security agencies are performing their duties well, yet the government refused to pay their rent allowances, and even after paying three quarters of the amount, 20% was deducted.

He said they are demanding a refund of the deducted 20%.

Hon. Ntim Fordjour further asserted that they are also demanding a refund for the over 500,000 unemployed youths the government sold forms to and cheated them of over GHC111 million under the guise of securing them security employment under the Ministry of Interior.

"But we are still demanding refund for over 500,000 unempolyed youths that this government scamed, sold forms to them milk them and cheated them with over GHC111 million under the guise of securing them security employment under the ministry of interior only to say 5,000 space is available," he said.
